On the Season 3 premiere episode of Madam Secretary, Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) asks President Dalton (Kevin Carradine) to reconsider his stance on climate change and foreign policy. If the president were to take her advice, he would risk a lot during the election year. While Elizabeth struggles to convince the President, she bumps into her old college professor Chief Justice Frawley. Last time we saw Frawley he swore in Secretary McCord when the President and Vice President temporarily went MIA on Air Force One.
Chief Justice Frawley is portrayed by the episode’s director, Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman. The 82-year-old is known for his roles in so many films it’s difficult to choose a handful to represent his career – The Shawshank Redemption (Red), Se7en (Somerset), Driving Miss Daisy (Hoke), and Million Dollar Baby (Eddie “Scrap-Iron” Dupris), are some. Freeman also appeared on 780 episodes of The Electric Company, the educational children’s show on PBS in the 1970s. Madam Secretary airs Sundays at 9pm on CBS.
