On an episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, Oprah Winfrey sits down with Olympic runner Suzy Favor Hamilton who became a prostitute, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, and the daughter of the late comedian/actor Richard Pryor, Rain Pryor.
[Rain Pryor is the author of 'Jokes My Father Never Taught Me: Life, Love, and Loss with Richard Pryor']
As an actress, Rain Pryor is known for her roles on Rude Awakening (Jackie Garcia) and Head of the Class (Theola June “TJ” Jones). She shares a story about working on the set of Head of the Class and getting a surprise visit from her father who was working on a nearby set. Rain had gotten into trouble “because I decided to have a diva attitude.” She says her father pulled her aside and said (and for this she did her best imitation of her father): “If I ever hear you act that way, I will kick your ass, you understand?” She says she cried and cried, and it never happened again. When he was hands-on, which wasn’t often, but when he was, “He was the strictest dad in the world,” says Rain. Oprah: Where Are They Now? airs Saturdays at 10pm on OWN.
