During the auditions for America's Got Talent, a family band named the Edgars walk on stage. The thirtysomething woman introduces herself as Nikki Edgar, then she introduces her husband Ryan and their teenage daughter Jaslyn. AGT judge Simon Cowell is surprised to hear that the women are mother/daughter. Nikki goes on to explain that Nikki was once a Christian artist with a record deal but when she became a teen mom, "they kicked me out."
Nikki was born Nichole Marie Leonti. When she was 17, she released an album called "Shelter Me" (in 1998) and then came "Nikki Leonti" (2001), shortly after she gave birth to Jaslyn in 2000. Nikki had another child, a son, in 2005. In 2008, while singing backup for Carrie Underwood, Nikki met Rich Velonskis. Together they formed the singing duo, Nikki & Rich (see them on Leno below.) They released a number of singles and a Greatest Hits album in 2011 but in 2015, they broke up. Nikki knocks it out with her new Edgar Family Band on America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
