Ariet Girgis got a restraining order against her respiratory therapist husband, Magdi Girgis, in 2004. After celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary, during an argument, Magdi punched Ariet in the face. He was arrested and faced domestic violence charges which would result in the loss of his medical license, his livelihood. A divorce was imminent. Days before Ariet was brutally murdered in her home, she testified in her domestic violence case that her marriage was “miserable.”
On September 29, 2004, two people broke into the Girgis home, attacked 17-year-old Ryan Girgis, duct taped him and forced him into a closet while his mother was stabbed to death (her throat slashed). Almost 10 years later, Magdi Girgis was convicted of conspiring to commit murder, for murder for financial gain and murder to prevent testimony to be true. Dateline Saturday Night Mystery will airs its investigative report "The Man Who Wasn't There" on April 9 at 8pm on NBC.
