But an American qualifier named Bjorn Frantangelo surprised the indomitable Djokovic in the first round at Indian Wells, switching places with him during the first set which Frantangelo won 6-2. Djokovic prevailed 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Frantangelo, 22, is ranked No. 149 in the world. Djokovic is the defending champion at Indian Wells.
