For her role in Carol, Australian actress Cate Blanchett is nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category. By her side at such awards events is her husband of 18 years, playwright Andrew Upton. They met on the set of a TV show in 1996. After three weeks of dating, Upton proposed. They got married within the year. They have four children including their youngest Edith Vivian Patricia, whom they adopted in March 2015.
Upton is known for his adaptations of Hedda Gabler, The Cherry Orchard, Cyrano de Bergerac, and Don Juan, among others for the Sydney Theatre Company. The couple started their own film production company, Dirty Films, which produced the 1999 short film Bangers which starred Blanchett – Upton wrote the script and directed. P.S.
