On The Flash episode “The Fury of Firestorm,” while Barry (Grant Gustin) and the team try to save the life of Dr. Stein (Victor Garber), Iris West (Candice Patton) and her father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) reunite with Iris’ mother, Francine. It’s been 20 years since Iris has seen her mother. And she’s not that happy to see her now. “Why now?” she asks Francine. But when Francine tries to explain that “there’s a lot you don’t know,” Iris cuts her mother short. “I don’t hate you, Francine. I do wish you well,” Iris says. “But we’ve lived separate lives for 20 years, let’s keep it that way.” Ouch.
Francine West is portrayed by Vanessa Williams. The Brooklyn native is best known for her roles on Melrose Place (Rhonda Blair), Chicago Hope (Dr. Grace Carr), and Soul Food (Maxine Chadway). Williams is also recognized for her roles in the films Candyman and New Jack City with Wesley Snipes. The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8pm on CW.
