Last year the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway visited the Milton, CT headquarters of Subway, the largest sandwich chain in the US. Buffet allegedly said he was interested in buying Subway so they gave him a grand tour. Now the Buffett-owned Dairy Queen is launching a new line of oven-baked sandwiches. A campaign will roll out in September.
The New York Post quotes a Subway insider saying: “They [Dairy Queen] copied us. They went to our vendors.” So what if the world’s third-richest man poached a vendor? Subway has 27,000 restaurants across North America; Dairy Queen has 3,500. Plus, DQ insists that they’ve been working on their new sandwich menu for three years, way before Buffet visited Subway.
