The Voice contestant Sarah Potenza is originally from Smithfield, Rhode Island, but she now lives in the heart of country music--Nashville, Tennessee. Although Sarah performs rock n' roll, she's a big fan of country music. She said she chose Blake Shelton (over Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine) because she said “I feel country music performers have a really strong connection to lyrics." And Sarah likes to tell a good story.
Sarah tells a sweet story about when she knew she wanted to become a singer. "When I heard Joe Cocker sing, I said, 'man, I’m alive.'” She admits to not understanding exactly what Cocker was saying or what the lyrics meant at the time but she knew she liked how it sounded. “And I knew I wanted to make that sound,” she said. Sarah's done well making that sound--even if she doesn't exactly sound like Joe Cocker. She made it to the Live Playoffs on The Voice, which airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
