A new survey finds that some McDonald's franchisees are regretting their situation, as the McDonald's brand--and its sales--continues to languish. Corporate answers to fierce challenges from the likes of Chick-fil-A and Chipotle--answers which the franchisees are forced to implement--haven't steadied the ship. And the McDonald's investment simply isn't paying back the way it used to for angry franchisees. Meanwhile, the Burger King next door is on a roll. (Not a sesame seed bun.)
McDonald's franchisees have a right to get testy. A McDonald's franchise start-up costs "range from $955,708 to $2,290,146" according to the company. There's also an initial franchise fee of $45,000, plus corporate collects a service fee of 4.0 % of monthly sales. And the franchisee is locked in for 20 years.
