A recent article on the rebooting of the Large Hadron Collider brought many comments from the fervently religious. The LHC–the largest machine ever built by man–does some astonishing things, like smashing protons together at nearly unfathomable velocity. The “collisions are so huge (relative to their subatomic scale) that the explosions created are similar to what happened at the moment of the big bang when this universe was born.” To the religious, this sounds way too much like man playing God. They worry that scientists are opening up a massive can of evil worms.
The reaction to the LHC may help liberals and gun control activists understand the extraordinary passion many Americans feel for the right to carry weapons–a passion which seems to perplex them. Turns out it’s not just about when the government comes to take your land–there are even greater foes afoot than socialists. Or as Hamlet said, “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio / Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” If the LHC makes a mess with its apostasy, those guns will come in handy. As Brian Willis writes about the LHC: “exactly they are trying to open a gateway for demons to come thru and manifest themselves in fleshly forms. could be the prophecy in the bible of creatures coming up from a pit with scary faces with the teeth like lion. But i have a feeling our hollow points and ar-15s and ak 47’s will make short work of them. lock and load. demon hunting time soon!”
