A video was leaked that allegedly shows members of the University of Oklahoma’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chanting incredible racial slurs on a bus ride. Rallying around an apparent point of pride that black students would always be excluded from Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the fraternity brothers chanted “there will never be a n–g–r SAE / You can hang them from a tree / But they’ll never sign with me.”
University President David Boren immediately condemned the video (“if it is indeed of OU students”) and a peaceful student protest took place on campus Monday morning. Addressing the students gathered Boren said “For this to happen at this day and time is unthinkable.” Reps from the famous Sooners football team, which has a high percentage of black players, attended the gathering. The fraternity losers who chanted should hope they don’t run into Sooners players elsewhere, black or white. The university closed the fraternity. According to Wikipedia, Oklahoma ranked first among public universities in enrollment of National Merit Scholars.
