Tiger Woods really wants to play on Saturday. In golf, Saturday means Sunday, too. Lately Woods hasn’t been able to wear any of his red shirts–his customary Sunday attire–because he’s been going home on Friday. That’s when they make the cut at PGA Tour events. It’s a fact that for most of Tiger Woods’ illustrious career he was probably only vaguely aware of, having rarely missed a cut. But these days he doesn’t usually make it to the weekend. That’s why he’s taking a break.
“My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf,” he wrote at TigerWoods.com. He added: “I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I’m ready, I’ll be back.” That’s good thinking, except that Woods thought he was ready the last couple of tournaments or he wouldn’t have played. He was wrong. No telling if Woods will be right next time he feels ready. But let’s hope so. Red is really Tiger’s color and all of golf is blue when he can’t wear it on Sundays–just ask the Nielsen ratings.
