French musical artist Cécile Schott's (aka Colleen) new album, Captain of None, is out this spring. At FACT mag, John Twells--a Schott contemporary--calls it her "most ambitious to date." That's saying something, because Captain of None is Schott's 5th album--in a career that's been full of the unexpected. It's her first on the Thrill Jockey label, which both Schott and Twells think is a perfect match for her sensibility and her audience.
Schott's last record--the first in a comeback after a prolonged silence--was The Weighing of the Heart. What was new about that record is that it's the first time Schott sang, though her previous albums had "a lyrical quality." Colleen/Schott begins touring in Munich in mid-March and will hit the US in June, starting in San Francisco and finishing up in NYC. Here's a taste.
