The new horror film, The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death, takes place in a haunted house. It’s WWII — a group of English kids are brought to the house after being evacuated from London. Their arrival awakens the house’s darkest inhabitant (the Woman in Black). But as film critic Chris Stuckmann points out, The Woman in Black 2 is incredibly poorly lit.
The acting is decent (Helen McCrory, Jeremy Irvine, Phoebe Fox) and “the shot structure is good” but if you can’t actually see what’s going on (due to poor lighting), moviegoers will scratch their heads when not falling for the false jumpstarts. Horror lovers would be better off tuning into Showtime’s new TV series, Penny Dreadful, which also stars Helen McCrory (Madame Kali) and supernatural threats in London.
