Curt Schilling was not elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. Others too, like Mike Piazza, were denied the pleasure--presumably for baseball reasons. But Schilling doesn't see it that way. He thinks there's a conspiracy. Schilling thinks he got jilted because he's a Republican. Because, you know, baseball hates Republicans. Just ask George W. Bush, former part-owner of the Texas Rangers. Or Nolan Ryan, or...hell, dig up Ty Cobb and ask him. Baseball is obviously a vast left wing conspiracy.
Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and John Smoltz did get into the Hall of Fame--all in their first eligible year. Who knows what kind of politics Pedro has, but Smoltz, according to Schilling, is a Democrat. He told a radio interviewer on WEEI that besides being a Hall-of-Famer now, "[Smoltz] I think he's a Democrat, and so... I know that as a Republican, that there's some people who really don't like that." As Tom Ley at Deadspin points out, Smoltz isn't even a Democrat--he's a Romney backer.
