“Sexual Assault Isn’t Funny,” proclaims the Action Alert on a petition meant to stop Bill Cosby from performing any of his upcoming shows. Despite the deluge of accusations threatening to sink Bill Cosby, the once-popular comedian still has shows on his schedule. (A Cosby performance in Florida last week–held after the accusations gained national attention–inexplicably began and ended with standing ovations.) Now people are taking to the Internet to make sure these new shows never happen. If Cosby won’t be prosecuted in a court of law, then petition signers want to be sure that he is at least convicted in the court of public opinion.
Larry McLaughlin of Colorado signed and commented: “Mr. Cosby has ceased to be funny.” Harry Harrison of New York added: “This man has to be stopped and held accountable for his disgusting actions!” Cosby performances are scheduled at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Temple Buell Theatre in Denver, and Flint Center in Cupertino. The Stop Cosby petition is up at thepetitionsite.com.
