Gabby Douglas, the reigning Olympic all-around champion gymnast, is back on the U.S. women’s national gymnastics team. She and Aly Raisman, a gold medalist in the floor exercise, will start participating in international events starting in 2015. Both gymnasts were part of the “Fierce Five” in London two years ago. The goal now is to make it to the 2016 Rio Games.
National team coordinator Martha Karolyi made the decision to add both Olympic champions after working with them at training camp this month. Karolyi and her husband Bela trained athletes in Romania i the 1070s--Nadia Comaneci, she of the perfect 10--and then defected to the States in 1981 to train Americans including Mary Lou Retton.
