Rapper Missy Elliott performed at Alexander Wang’s H&M Collection launch in New York this week and wowed the audience with her talent and her weight loss. The 'Lose Control' rapper has apparently gained control, reportedly losing around 70 pounds.
The impetus for her determination to lose the weight was a diagnosis of Graves’ disease, an autoimmune illness that affects the thyroid. She started experience symptoms – dizzy spells, lumps in her throat, hair loss, and bulging eyes – in 2008. She had several radiation treatments and spent a year on medication. She’s off the medication now and is proud to announce that she’s managing the condition through diet and exercise. She says she “feels better than ever.” Graves’ disease affects 2 out of every 100 women.
