It's extremely hard to create memorable characters--that's why once Hollywood finds one it can't let go. (Look at Bond, Batman and Jason Bourne, just in the Bs.) Quirks in Reubens' personal life dimmed Pee-Wee's luster, but second chances--F. Scott Fitzgerald be damned--are the lifeblood of the American dream, especially in entertainment. And who better to revive than a character who was known to be irrepressible? Hey, remember Pee-Wee was big time--Tim Burton directed Pee-Wee's Big Adventure in 1985. Rumors that started last year have Judd Apatow producing.
