Marion Barry, still Washington DC’s most famous mayor, preferred crack cocaine, but the average DC denizen just wants a little weed. A new poll shows that the almost state (DC has its own grumbling license plates and a Miss America contestant) figures if its residents can’t vote, they may as well get high. Look for Peyton Manning to buy up some pizza franchises around the capital soon–Adams Morgan has long been ripe for buds-based capitalism.
The poll, conducted by NBC4/Washington Post/Marist–with all the pot involved it apparently takes more organizations than usual to solicit opinions–shows 65 percent of voters support legalizing marijuana. The real vote comes on November 4. The law is funny. Basically if it passes you can smoke what you want, grow up to six plants and carry up to two ounces–but the sale of marijuana would be illegal! So it’s not about money and tax revenue. Apparently voters think legalized pot will make things more fair on the streets, and end racial discrimination linked to marijuana arrests. Peace out.
