In the Japanese video game “The Last Guardian” (Hitokui no Ōwashi Trico, literally “Trico, the man-eating eagle”), a young boy befriends a giant bird/cat creature, Trico. The player controls the boy who cares for the creature. He must feed it, clean it, and sometimes manipulate Trico. For example, the boy has to lure Trico with food and use Trico as a means to climb and reach remote places. The game experience has been compared to training a pet. The more a player takes care of the pet, the more control he/she has of the pet.
Fans were hoping to see “The Last Guardian” at the Tokyo Game Show this year but alas, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said: “I don’t think so. Sorry.” He added, “They’re still working on it. I’ve been seeing the progress.” The game has been in development since 2007.
