Craig Ferguson's replacement as host of The Late Late Show on CBS has been named: James Corden. Who? you might ask. Much like Ferguson was when he took the reins of the show in 2005, Corden is an imported Brit with a relatively low profile in the United States. The creator of hit UK comedy Gavin & Stacey has also won a Tony Best Actor award for his performance in One Man, Two Guvnors.
Will this change--along with Dave Letterman's retirement--radically alter late night? Probably not. The late-night talk show landscape will be as highly competitive as ever--with much of it seeming to do little else except produce You Tube clips. But between Corden, Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel, O'Brien and Myers, it continues to be dominated by middle-aged straight white men.
