The Netflix political drama House of Cards is an adaption of an English mini-series of the same name. The American version, starring Kevin Spacey (who knows about English drama–he was Artistic Director at The Old Vic in London), is set in present-day Washington, DC. Spacey’s character, Frank Underwood, is a Democrat from South Carolina and the House majority whip who craves power at seemingly any price. It’s all about “doing bad things for the greater good.”
House of Cards, which streams on Netflix, received 14 Emmy Award nominations for its first season, and 31 for its second. It’s Spacey’s second nomination for the role. Does Spacey think he’ll win this time around? He humbly told the Los Angeles Times: “You watch the Wimbledon finals and you see two guys or two ladies out there and it’s an easier way to judge who wins the game. In this, it’s apples and oranges – I’m thrilled but it’s odd to be singled out of such a team effort.” Spacey shouldn’t think it’s all that odd–he’s the only actor on House of Cards making $500,000 per episode.
