The artist Candy Coated (aka Candy Depew) pulled a wild assortment of 19th and 20th century children’s dresses and costumes from the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s collection and created a new home for them called, what else, CandyCoated Wonderland. Candy Coated (it’s difficult to separate Coated from Candy) has sprinkled her signature playful pixie dust all around the installation. The child-sized mannequins are surrounded by walls of ceramic gems, silk-screened fabrics and vinyl decals.
At the center of it all is a miniature, quilted playhouse made from a patchwork of decorative fabrics with patterns inspired by the historical designs. CC Wonderland launches the museum’s summer program Art Splash, which is dedicated to offering family friendly exhibitions. On view May 4-November 17, 2013.
