Not all urbanites are wary of the great outdoors. NYC graphic designer Peter Buchanan-Smith (originally from Ontario, Canada) still finds roughing it to be an indispensable creative outlet. During one woodsy excursion which required cutting wood for a fire, he saw the need to meld his two passions – design and the outdoors. The inadequate axe in his hands – one he bought from the Home Depot on 23rd Street – wasn’t getting the job done. So he made a better one – The Best Made.
The designer axe was just the beginning. Two years later and Buchanan-Smith is selling from an attractive catalog of designer camping gear which any hip adventurer would love to own (if not use). City slickers who venture into the woods will need: an alpine rucksack (that’s a backpack), a ditty bag (to hook onto a branch or bunk), and a First Aid Kit equipped with a sliver gripper (tweezers) and a Metropolitan Whistle (to signal when a tree is about to fall or for use at home to hail a cab).
