The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledged that cases of Chagas, a parasitic disease that can lead to heart failure and fatal digestive disorders, have been identified in California, Texas and Arizona. The disease is spread through reduvid, or “kissing bugs,” which feed on human blood.
Chagas is a major problem in Central and South America, where it mainly afflicts impoverished communities, but cases have so far been limited in the US. Now it’s here.
