A group called American Atheists just put up two billboards, one in a Muslim neighborhood in Paterson, NJ, and another in a largely Jewish section of Brooklyn. God is a myth, they state, in Arabic and Hebrew, respectively. Mosques, synagogues and churches, all abundant nearby, stand silent in lapidary counterargument.
Heretics Tariq Ali, Isaac Asimov, Dave Barry, Arthur C. Clarke, George Eliot, Par Lagerkvist, Seamus Heaney, Stieg Larsson, Mary McCarthy, Ayn Rand, Joyce Carol Oates, Jodie Foster, Ricky Gervais, Gene Kelly, Daniel Radcliffe, Neils Bohr, Marvin Minsky, J. Craig Ventner, E. O. Wilson, Lance Armstrong and George Clooney would, were they all still among the quick, agree with the billboards.
