A feature entitled Mugs In The News–a collection of mugshots taken recently at local cop shops–proudly ornaments the Chicago Tribune website, which is careful to post this caveat: “Arrest does not imply guilt, and criminal charges are merely accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty and convicted.”
This morning a visitor there can peruse 150 photos of people yet to be convicted of anything. (Note to Chicagoans wishing to beg off jury duty: this is your website.) The comments section is filled with predictably high-minded thoughts on the accused.
